Veins of light
Radiating capillaries
Through clear moving water
Swirling like blood beneath my skin
Radiating life in complex and unknown patterns.
I am stilled by the evening air
Wind softly sliding over my cheek
Bristling the ends of my hair;
Sheets of water, wide and resting…then
Opening into a laugh of trickling,
Over tiny pebbles
and friendly rocks.
This is summer in Sutter Creek, slow and easy.
July heat here is unoppressive, welcoming, magnificent….
Brilliant blue sky, penetrated by moving monarchs-
Two dancing mid-air around my head
Admitting, in their delicate beauty,
That celebratory grace IS the pulse of the planet.
And as the river sings back,
As the wind whistles through trees
And the light invokes galaxies inside my eyes
I am woven into this moment forever
And this moment is woven inside of me.
