Beth Pettengill Riley joins the Watermark Arts Creative Team

ElaineWelcoming New Artists

Beth Pettengill Riley, Watermark Arts Education Advisor, has broken ground in re-visioning physical education to encompass the felt sense of lived human experience. Beth teaches Continuum and is also an accomplished poet; you can drink in some of her poetry on our website. In 2017 she co-taught, with Watermark Arts Associate Director Priscilla Auchincloss, the online Continuum course A Moving Inquiry: The Art of Personal Practice, now being made into a workbook (stay tuned – an excerpt will be available to Omega participants,
with pre-order open to all soon).

Brilliant blue sky, penetrated by moving monarchs-
Two dancing mid-air around my head
Admitting, in their delicate beauty,
That celebratory grace IS the pulse of the planet.

A new video by Prue Jeffries, who along with composer Morena Boschetto, movement artists Simona Arbizzani & Elaine Colandrea, created Wind Dances III – a spontaneous collaboration that combined the fruits of a day off shopping trip in Venice with a windy early evening on a hillside in northern Italy after a Continuum workshop.

To All Movers, Thinkers, Seekers, and Wanderers in the Body Realm…

A question for our time: Is it possible to remain connected to our physical experience, and the treasure of creativity and wholeness that’s inherent there, as the world changes at so rapid a pace? If there’s one thing that flows through all the ways a person could valuably work with their physicality, it is the sense of inquiry.

Now, in collaboration with Watermark Arts, Beth Pettengill Riley and Priscilla Auchincloss are creating an online program to guide you towards your true teacher: your own body. The purpose of this course is to help you establish a personal movement practice that serves as the foundation of your daily life.

Our lives are made of movements, and by bringing an organizing consciousness to our bodies through a personal movement practice, there’s a flow of intelligence from the natural world through our senses and tissues. Instead of living “on the surface,” we can know ourselves as part of nature’s body. This is all the more critical in the increasingly disembodied and fragmented modern times we live in. For those of us who, by fate or choice, find ourselves to be “movement people”, it is time to truly walk our talk and bring forward the wisdom of the body.

The world needs your embodiment, your ability to know through the physical ground of being.

Somatic Movement Immersion:
Inhabiting the Body, Moving the World

Come celebrate your life as a living source of energy, knowledge, and creativity in the Somatic Movement Immersion.

By deepening into somatic-based presence, we awaken the power of our own well-being in service to creating a more humane world. Generations of somatic pioneers—including Emilie Conrad, Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen, Laban-Bartenieff, Moshe Feldenkrais, F.M. Alexander and others—have laid the groundwork for cultivating a deep human experience of wholeness that opens new pathways of perception and action.

Practitioners of somatic movement and those inspired by somatic study and practice are invited to explore this evolving field. Together we use leading-edge approaches from Continuum to more fully inhabit our breath, bones, fascia, and vision, as well as the lymph, affect and autonomic nervous systems.

Throughout the week, we focus on applications of somatic inquiry to personal self-care, artistic expression, interpersonal relationships, professional work with clients/students, and community engagement.

Daily sessions, incorporating Continuum breathing, movement and sound practices, create a regenerative context allowing us to experience the transformative and artful nature of our own physiology. We come away able to navigate life with greater freedom, resilience, and effectiveness.

The week also includes evening talks and video presentations, as well as performances of somatic-inspired dance, music, art and poetry. CEU’s are available for bodyworkers

The Somatic Movement Immersion is hosted by Elaine Colandrea of Watermark Arts and cotaught with Mary Abrams, Priscilla Auchincloss, Megan Bathory-Peeler, Ellen Cohen, Suzanne Wright Crain, Bobbie Ellis, Melanie Noblit Gambino, Bonnie Gintis, Amber Elizabeth Gray, Caryn Heilman, Rebecca Lawson, Val Leoffler, Linda Rabin, Beth Pettengill Riley, and Bonnie Simoa. Guest presenters include John Bianculli, Elisa Cotroneo, Martha Eddy Ph.D, and Marc Grossman, O.D., LAc.
